Court orders 500,000 rubles for injury on icy yard

A St. Petersburg pensioner will receive compensation after a serious fall due to uncleared ice in the yard. The Kalininsky District Court ordered the local housing agency to pay her 500,000 rubles (approximately $5,300 at current rates).

The St. Petersburg Prosecutor«s Office appeared in court to protect the interests of a 67-year-old city resident, who due to health reasons could not defend her rights on her own.
In early March of last year, the woman slipped on an iced-over area near house No. 36/2 on Karpinsky Street. The fall led to severe head bruises and a compression fracture of the spine.
An inspection found that the courtyard area had been cleared of snow and ice poorly.
Having considered the lawsuit, the Kalininsky District Court ruled to recover 500,000 rubles (approximately $5,300 at current rates) from the St. Petersburg State Budgetary Institution «Housing Agency of the Kalininsky District» as compensation for moral damages in favor of the victim.
