The Dzerzhinsky District Court of Volgograd upheld the lawsuit of the airline Aeroflot against a passenger who caused a disruption in October 2023. The total amount of penalties from the defendant exceeds 113,900 rubles (approximately $1,300 at current rates).
The incident occurred on October 10, 2023, on a flight to Moscow. Court documents state: «In violation of flight safety rules, he ignored the flight attendants» demands to fasten his seatbelt. Moreover, he stood up in the aircraft aisle and began waving his arms, insulting passengers with coarse obscenities, which provoked a fight.«
After the flight attendants reported, the aircraft commander decided to return to the airport terminal, where the disruptor was handed over to police officers. An administrative protocol was drawn up against the man under the article on petty hooliganism.
The consideration of the case was delayed due to the involvement of a third party — the Volgograd Linear Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Transport. On January 12, the court issued a default judgment, under which the defendant was ordered to pay:
  • 109,237 rubles (approximately $1,200 at current rates) as compensation for the airline«s losses;
  • 4,679 rubles (approximately $52 at current rates) to cover court costs.
A copy of the decision was sent to Yarulla at the end of January. No information about his appeal had been received at the time of publication.
From open sources, it is known that the 43-year-old defendant is an entrepreneur. He owns three companies in Novosibirsk that specialize in wholesale trade and installation of plumbing and heating equipment. For 2024, the total revenue of his firms was 13 million rubles (approximately $144,400 at current rates), with a net profit of 403 thousand rubles (approximately $4,500 at current rates).
The editorial office sent an official request to Aeroflot«s press service asking to comment on the court decision and explain the methodology for calculating losses.
