Court Again Suspends Orenburg Cable Car Operation for 3 Months

Orenburg residents have been eagerly awaiting the cable car«s return to service for months.
The Central District Court of Orenburg considered an administrative case against the Municipal Institution «BiOZ», which is responsible for the operation of the cable car. The facility, which turned 20 this year, has not been carrying passengers since 2024.

The Orenburg funicular marked its 20th anniversary in 2026 while remaining non-operational.
An inspection of the cable car«s operation was conducted in December 2025. It was then revealed that the facility still poses a threat to people»s lives and health. According to the court, the Municipal Institution «BiOZ» did not conduct an industrial safety examination after the service life expired, did not find the required number of employees, and did not appoint someone responsible for safety.
However, the city hall told us that later the enterprise did carry out a set of measures to eliminate previously identified violations of industrial safety requirements, namely: repairs were made to the cable car buildings and premises, and workers underwent training. An examination was also conducted, but the results were expected only at the end of January 2026, while the court hearing took place now. The outcome — the court suspended the funicular«s operation for another 90 days. The ruling has not entered into legal force.
Recall that at the end of last year, the Orenburg City Council approved new tariffs for using the funicular. According to the document, the fare will be as follows.
From Monday to Friday — 208 rubles per person (about $2 at current rates) (for beneficiaries — 166 rubles (about $2 at current rates));
On Saturday and Sunday — 260 rubles per person (about $3 at current rates) (for beneficiaries — 208 rubles (about $2 at current rates)).
Also in 2025, the head of Orenburg, Albert Yumadilov, stated that the cable car would be launched this summer, since due to technical features, repairs can only be carried out in the warm season.
