On the afternoon of January 29, a courier from a delivery service decided to take a shortcut by driving onto the frozen surface of the Fontanka River near Anichkov Bridge. The vehicle got stuck on the ice, creating a dangerous situation. The moment of the extreme ride was captured by a photojournalist.
Video shared on social media shows people walking on the frozen Neva River despite safety warnings.
Even in frosty weather, the ice cover under bridges remains thinnest due to increased water flow. Nevertheless, some St. Petersburg residents continue to venture onto the ice, including on the Neva River. Video of such walks appeared on social media on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) previously informed that the ban on going onto the ice of the Gulf of Finland and city water bodies was supposed to remain in effect until January 25. City residents have already been warned about the danger of such walks.
According to Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the FOBOS Center, one can forget about the return of European winter at least until the end of the first decade of February. The weather forecast for Friday indicates frosty weather: at night, the thermometer may drop to –17 degrees Celsius (1°F), during the day –10…–12 degrees Celsius (14…10°F).
