In Yekaterinburg«s Akademichesky microdistrict, active preparation for construction on a large forested plot has begun. Machinery has started cutting down trees between Pavel Shamanov Street, Wilhelm de Gennin Street, Akademik Sakharov Street, and Ryabinin Street.

A large portion of the territory is allocated for residential buildings.

Last year, the decision was made to use this 21.09-hectare area for construction. Planned developments include:
- residential high-rise buildings
- a school for 1,125 students
- two kindergartens with 250 places each

An entertainment complex with a hotel is planned at the intersection of Pavel Shamanov and Ryabinin streets.

Some residents of Akademichesky had used this forest as a shortcut — crossing a deep ditch and a steep slope — but this option will no longer be available.

This area was previously covered by a dense forest stand.

According to the project, by 2045 the cleared area will contain 261,000 square meters of housing. Buildings will range from 10 to 33 stories. Also planned are two underground two-level parking garages and an entertainment center with a hotel at the corner of Pavel Shamanov and Ryabinin streets.

Local residents occasionally used a forest trail despite it being unsafe.
