Communal lake cuts off Saratov Opera House

The Saratov Opera and Ballet Theatre, temporarily housed in the DK Tantal building, is being flooded as a water leak from a broken utility line has created a large pond that now reaches the theatre steps and the nearby underground passage.

The building temporarily housing the Saratov Opera and Ballet Theatre is being flooded. Water from the street has risen right up to the porch, eyewitnesses report in the Telegram channel “Saratov Speaks.”

The post states that utility workers have been unable to fix the leak near the DK Tantal (House of Culture “Tantal”) on 2nd Dachnaya for several months. Even earlier, people and cars had difficulty crossing the spill.

“This morning the situation completely overflowed its banks. The reservoir has expanded its boundaries and now splashes directly from the theatre porch to Prospekt 50 Let Oktyabrya (50 Years of October Avenue), flowing into the underground passage,” the post says.

Judging by the footage published in the channel, it is impossible to cross the “lake” directly between the DK and Prospekt 50 Let Oktyabrya. The water does not freeze, and steam rises above it.
