Citymatic faced waste removal issues during New Year holidays due to frosts

During the New Year holidays, northerners complained about waste removal: according to the number of such appeals, Murmansk region ranked 9th place in Russia. The prosecutor«s office conducted an inspection and identified problems in the activities of the regional operator—the Murmansk branch of AO Citymatic.
As reported by 51.RU from the company, during the long holidays, waste volumes always increase multiple times. Severe frosts also played a part—because of them, work equipment was breaking down.
«As a result, there were disruptions in the schedule for solid municipal waste removal in Murmansk, the closed town of Alexandrovsk, and cities in the southern part of the region. Last week, heavy equipment—wreckers capable of handling waste frozen into snow and heavy debris—was deployed to clean container sites,» Citymatic said.
Another reason—cars parked near garbage bins:
«Taking this opportunity, we appeal to all motorists in the Polar Region not to obstruct the work of special vehicles, including by avoiding parking near container sites.»
The total volume of waste entering the Ecotechnopark daily in January increased by an average of 17% compared to the previous month, the company noted. In absolute terms, per shift at the AO Citymatic facility, approximately 700 tons of waste are processed and safely disposed of.
The regional operator plans to deploy additional special equipment. Furthermore, in line with agreements with the regional government, six more garbage trucks have been purchased.
«The trucks feature high capacity, good compression ratios, and the ability to operate in challenging weather conditions,» the company promised.
Residents were reminded that if service failure is confirmed, the regional operator will issue refunds according to legal procedures.
Recall that the new head of Citymatic, Yana Kuprikova, promised to improve waste removal in Murmansk region. She also explained how the issue would be addressed.
In Murmansk itself, issues persist: according to city head Ivan Lebedev, AO Citymatic has faced fines totaling 3,705,000 rubles (approximately $41,200 at current rates), with 103 administrative protocols filed. Previously, regional authorities planned an inspection of Citymatic.
