Bitcoin Ransom for Savannah Guthrie's Mother

Authorities in Pima County are verifying the authenticity of several alleged ransom letters demanding millions of dollars in bitcoin for the safe return of TV host Savannah Guthrie«s elderly mother, according to media reports.

At a press conference, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos gave evasive answers to questions about possible ransom demands, stating only that they are investigating all possibilities.

Several media outlets reported receiving mysterious messages three days after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie was taken from her home in the middle of the night.

According to media reports, the letter — not yet confirmed by authorities — demanded a «specific substantial amount in bitcoin.» The sum is reported to be in the millions and must be sent to a specified bitcoin address.

The email reportedly included «certain details, such as what she was wearing and what damage was done to the house,» presumably to prove it was not a hoax.

Pima County authorities posted on social media that they are aware of reports of possible ransom letters and are taking all tips and leads very seriously, forwarding them to detectives who are coordinating with the FBI.

Sheriff Nanos admitted that his department does not know where Nancy Guthrie is. «We don»t know where she is,« he told reporters bluntly. »As with any investigation, we start from the last place she was seen and work from there.«

Earlier, Nanos said they do not believe Nancy was targeted because of her daughter«s wealth and fame, but he did not rule out the possibility entirely.

Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie immediately flew to Arizona upon learning of her mother«s suspected kidnapping. NBC later confirmed that the host will not join coverage of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Italy in order to be with her family during this difficult time.

Savannah has also reportedly stepped up her personal security. According to insiders, protection measures around her, her family, and several TODAY show hosts have been significantly tightened since Nancy«s disappearance.
