Belovo resident moves nationally famous carp from frozen basement
Lovita Golubovich, a resident of Belovo, has removed 11 carp from the flooded basement of her own house; the fish became nationwide celebrities several months ago. On Sunday, January 18, she explained the reasons for moving them and their fate to NGS42.RU.
As Lovita explains, the carp can no longer live under the house due to the frost that came to Kuzbass. After abnormal cooling, the water level in the basement dropped and the remaining «pool» froze.
«Everything there is seized with an icy crust. It»s uncomfortable for the carp to live, but a barrel isn«t an option either. So I decided to see my plan through to the end — to hold a raffle among subscribers, and whoever wins will decide the fate of their carp,» notes the Belovo resident.
As a result of the raffle, the new owners decided that the celebrity fish deserved freedom. Golubovich went to the Belovo reservoir to release them.
The resident notes that the story with flooding in the private sector has not ended. In her opinion, the water receded due to the frost, but with warming it will rush into the basement again. Moreover, nothing has changed for her neighbors in recent months.
«Neighbors pump out water around the clock. Some heat their stoves in fishing boots — they also have a boiler room in the basement. Another has coal below ground level, he also has to pump to keep the fuel from getting wet. He already installed a second pump,» Lovita recounts.
On one of the flooded streets — Fevralskaya, in mid-December a drainage well was launched. As the townswoman explained, essentially it«s a pit five meters deep, with a pump installed that drains water through pipes into the central sewer.
«Initially it was assumed that my basement should dry out very quickly, but everything is going slowly,» says the resident.
Homeowners whose basements continue to fill with water are awaiting the conclusion of a second expert examination to determine the cause of what happened in their microdistrict. The company «Geotekhnika» must give its opinion by March, after which, as promised to residents, a plan to solve the problem will be developed in Belovo.
Authorities also contracted with the Novosibirsk company «Zapsibgiprovodkhoz», which has already conducted geological surveys. Lovita reported that specialists proposed installing concrete patches, but such work would cost the region 2–3 billion rubles (approximately $20–30 million at current rates).
«Such money will be sought for a long time. They [employees of »Zapsibgiprovodkhoz«] refer to the positive experience of the city of Cherepanovo in Novosibirsk Oblast. This company installed patches with the proper slope in a sinking private sector. This will help, but only with surface water — meltwater, rainwater. The water that comes into our basements won»t escape,« explains Lovita.
According to the homeowner, the cause of the flooding is complex, but first and foremost, the «decrepit water supply» is to blame.
«Groundwater — it»s not a waterfall for water to suddenly rush in. Most likely, there was first a small leak somewhere, and then it burst and flowed through old water pipes to us,« believes Golubovich.
As for the carp, they not only gained popularity on the internet but also created resonance around the drowning houses in Belovo. The Investigative Committee initiated a case, but interim results have not yet been announced.
There are no suspects or accused so far. As our interviewee believes, those involved could be either administration employees, if it«s about groundwater, or the water utility — if there are problems with the networks.
«Thank you to everyone for participating and for paying attention to the trouble of our city. Yes, now the water has receded due to the frost, as expected. Spring will show how kind it is to us. I sincerely believe that the carp will really save us and the city will take capital measures for drainage,» concluded the author of the now-popular Telegram channel.
Earlier, residents demanded to be told the cost of contracts for network inspection. The mayor«s office promised to do so, but several weeks after their words, they have not broken the silence.
Initially, Golubovich settled the carp in the flooded basement to draw attention to the settlement«s struggle with the elements and the local administration, but the story was talked about all over Russia. The Belovo resident was promised to be checked for violations in keeping fish, but specialists never arrived, as Golubovich assumes, due to the resonance.
«I called them myself, invited them, but no one came. We and the neighbors would have asked questions in return. And how safe is it for us to live with mold and mosquitoes,» noted Lovita.
