Arkhangelsk starts rat extermination: poison locations revealed

A map shows the area in Arkhangelsk where rat poison is scheduled to be deployed, marked with red boundaries.
Deratization in Arkhangelsk will begin in a block in the Lomonosovsky District, bounded by Pomorskaya Street, Serafimovicha Street, Lomonosov Avenue, and the Obvodny Canal. Poison is set to be scattered in this area next week.
Earlier it was reported that preliminary treatment of rodent habitats in the Lomonosovsky and Oktyabrsky districts would begin this week. Now authorities report that for now, the areas will be inspected and points for placing poison in public areas will be determined.
“To achieve an effect, deratization must be carried out simultaneously by management companies (UKs) in building basements, near container sites, and on adjacent territory. District administrations will coordinate this work. After the survey, we will convey the work scheme to the management companies. We plan to start deratization in the first «square» in the middle of next week,” the Arkhangelsk administration reports.
The administration of the Lomonosovsky District asks dog owners who walk their pets in the deratization area to watch their animals and not let them off leash. Rat poison is effective for 7-10 days.
What We Wrote About Rats in the City
In 2025, deratization was carried out twice in Arkhangelsk. However, complaints about rats continue to come in from residents to the city administration and Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing).
Rodents continued to be encountered both on the streets and right inside homes. Some residents believe that cats can help with the problem, while others do not trust this method.
The issue of deratization was even brought up on the governor«s hotline. At the end of 2025, Alexander Tsybulsky called Dmitry Morev during a live broadcast and asked him to respond to residents.
The large number of rats has made city residents think about what local container sites look like. The company «EcoIntegrator» explained who should monitor cleanliness near trash bins.
We also asked an infectious disease specialist how rodents on the streets can be dangerous to humans — read what he answered.
