Architect Anna Myalk: Millionka Block Needs Global Reconstruction

Architect, advisor to the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences and corresponding member of the Academy of Architectural Heritage Anna Myalk has commented on the comprehensive development of the territory (KRT) of Millionka in Vladivostok. In her opinion, it is not just a few buildings but the entire block and utility networks that need reconstruction, reported PrimaMedia.ru.

«A piece has been torn out of the entire block for just two objects. The whole block needs a global reconstruction of its networks. Absolutely all buildings, all owners and users of the premises suffer here. We just walked through these blocks and, as they say, experienced all the aromas of Millionka,» — the architect said at the expert meeting «Millionka. Between Past and Future.»

She believes that the reconstruction should be based on international experience in preserving historical sites. For example, in China and Europe, residents and owners are involved in the design process.

«Residents were co-authors of this design. Nothing is done without them. There must be appropriate trust relationships among all participants in the process,» Myalk said.

Myalk also emphasized that Millionka is part of the history of several generations of Vladivostok residents, and its value is not limited to the period when the block was inhabited by Chinese.

Anna also found the appearance of visual sketches in the documents strange. She emphasized that they do not comply with the regulations of protected zones, and suggested that the images were generated by artificial intelligence.

The authorities approved the KRT of Millionka back in May, and in early June they published a list of objects they want to reconstruct. This includes 8 buildings, most of which are cultural heritage sites. Also included in the KRT zone is the famous Chinese courtyard at 3a Semenovskaya Street. However, its fate was proposed to be decided by local residents.
