Almost 34,000 take part in Epiphany immersions in St. Petersburg

This year, 33,908 residents and visitors of the city participated in the traditional Epiphany immersions. The figure is about a thousand less than last year's turnout.

Epiphany immersions in St. Petersburg this year attracted 33,908 participants. According to the city committee on legality, law and order, and safety, this number is about a thousand less than last year«s figure, when 34,866 people took the plunge.

  • The immersions took place over two days, January 18 and 19, at 17 specially equipped Jordan (blessed water holes).
  • As the authorities reported, no incidents or emergencies were recorded during the events.
City officials and emergency services monitor the event from a special observation point.

Committee chairman Andrey Golomiyevsky noted: «This result was achieved thanks to clear coordination between various departments and, no less important, the conscientiousness of St. Petersburg residents.» These data were published on the department«s official page on the social network VKontakte on January 20.
