16 illegal water line connections detected in Sochi since start of year

In Sochi, authorities are continuing to combat those who illegally tap into the city«s water pipes without a contract or permission. Since the start of this year, specialists from the city»s water utility have already detected 16 such cases.

These illegal connections cause problems for everyone. They reduce pressure in the system, so other residents in a building or an entire street might get only a trickle of water or lose it altogether. Often, such makeshift connections are installed improperly, leading to leaks and serious pipe bursts.

Employees of the water utility regularly patrol city districts to inspect pipes and identify such «illegals.» A recent inspection took place in the Sirius neighborhood — specialists examined homes on Ruzheinaya Street, Perepeliny Lane, and Kuvshinok Street.

They identify such customers simply — their water consumption exceeds normal usage rates.

According to the press service of Sochi«s water utility, owners who made illegal connections face fines, back charges for unaccounted water consumption, and, if they ignore directives — disconnection from the water supply.

It is possible to legalize a connection by contacting the enterprise to formalize a contract and technical conditions. After meeting all requirements, water supply will be restored on a legal basis.
