Yekaterinburg court halts DUO coffee shop supplier

The first reports of poisonings in DUO coffee shops appeared in mid-January.
The Railway District Court of Yekaterinburg upheld the demand of sanitary inspectors and suspended the operations of the company «Dessertcom+» for 90 days. This firm was a supplier of ingredients for DUO coffee shops, where mass poisonings of customers occurred in January.
«An epidemiological investigation was conducted, the production workshop of the enterprise, located in Vyezdnoy Lane, which supplies components for coffee shop products, was examined,» explained the Sverdlovsk Regional Court.
An inspection by Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) revealed numerous violations of sanitary and epidemiological rules. Among the main deficiencies:
- The flow of technological processes was disrupted.
- Employees entered the cloakroom in outerwear and shoes through a corridor with a storage area, where raw materials, finished products, and packaging were stored on open shelves.
- The stored food products lacked labeling with storage conditions and expiration dates.
- Daily medical examinations of workers for skin and infectious diseases were not conducted at the enterprise.
- Employees were allowed to work without mandatory medical examinations, hygiene training, and vaccination.
The inspection was initiated after mass complaints from visitors of DUO coffee shops in mid-January. The victims reported symptoms of poisoning: severe vomiting, weakness, and chills. During the inspection, Staphylococcus aureus was found in two workers of the establishments.
