The most romantic day of the year — February 14 — is approaching, and with it the flower market traditionally comes to life. Florists in the Altai Krai are preparing for an influx of customers and, alas, the inevitable rise in prices. Forecasts suggest bouquet costs may increase by 10–20% compared to ordinary days. NGS22.RU decided to find out about the prices and selection in the city«s flower salons.

Why are prices rising?

As the salon «7 Roses» explained, flower prices for February 14 usually rise a little, but sellers try to keep costs affordable. The average price of a bouquet during this time is from 1000 to 3000 rubles ($10–$30 at current rates) depending on its composition and size.

«We don»t have specific data on the percentage price increase for February 14. Prices depend on the flower variety and season. Usually, during holidays, the cost may rise a bit. On the holiday itself, flower shop revenue increases 3–4 times compared to regular weekdays, thanks to a large number of orders for both bouquets and related gifts — balloons, sweets, soft toys,« the store noted.

The flower shop «Tsvetopt» confirmed that demand for flowers before holidays like February 14 and March 8 sharply increases.

«Suppliers raise prices, and florists follow. The increase is about 10–15%, it»s an annual story. Furthermore, in the pre-holiday days, the workload on staff increases, which can also affect the final cost of bouquets,« the salon clarified.

The flower shop added that for florists, February 14 is not just a workday, but a real marathon.

«It»s a very intense and responsible day. We prepare many bouquets in advance to manage to please everyone on this holiday of love. We create each bouquet with special care and attention, because it«s a special gift. The work is exciting, but very pleasant when you see sincere joy on the faces of those it»s intended for,« the store shared.

What do customers choose?

Representatives of flower shops note that men most often prefer classic roses — red, pink, and sometimes rarer shades. Bouquets of 5, 7, or 11 roses, as well as stylish compositions, are especially popular.

The flower salon «Moulen Rose» confirmed there is a real rush for roses.

«Roses undoubtedly take first place in popularity. Most often, clients choose impressive bouquets consisting of 51 to 151 roses. For those aiming to make a truly grand impression, we offer luxurious baskets containing from 501 to 1001 roses. Furthermore, based on last year»s experience, we noticed growing interest in mixed bouquets. Compositions of hydrangeas, eustomas, and chrysanthemums are also in great demand,« the store specified.

As for the cost, it, of course, directly depends on the volume.

«We can create a lush and voluminous bouquet in the price range of 4000 to 6000 rubles ($40–$60 at current rates). However, we always strive to match our clients» budget as much as possible, so beautiful and effective compositions can be selected for 2000–3000 rubles ($20–$30 at current rates),« the salon said.

At the same time, representatives of the flower shop noted they had not raised prices for the pre-holiday period.

«Despite all the changes, we try to keep the cost at the same level so as many clients as possible can please themselves and their loved ones. For us, every order is a unique story. We approach creating bouquets with a deep understanding of who they are for and on what occasion. We always focus on the individual wishes of the client,» the salon said.

In addition to standard bouquets, masters are ready to bring clients« boldest ideas to life, guided by photos and personal wishes.

Among the most memorable orders, florists note:

Floral confession: A composition of more than 5000 roses for a special girl, including several baskets of 101 and 501 roses, and the recipient«s name laid out in flowers.

  • Large-scale baskets: Orders for 1001, 501, or 1501 roses are commonplace. Florists carefully study the wishes and even visit the location to select the perfect basket size.

  • Winter hit: An unexpected but very popular trend this winter has been bouquets of tangerines. Combined with spray roses, they create incredibly beautiful and fragrant compositions.

Statistics show that men most often order flowers for their beloveds — wives, girlfriends, fiancées.
