Long-forgotten literary characters may return to cinema screens in the new year.
Movie buffs and book lovers will have plenty to discuss in 2026, as a whole wave of screen adaptations awaits them — ranging from new interpretations of famous works to major continuations of already beloved franchises.
Christopher Nolan«s »The Odyssey« with an incredible cast, the third »Dune«, a new »Hunger Games« prequel, and another take on »Wuthering Heights«, which has already attracted public attention long before the film»s release. Russian cinemas will delight audiences with adaptations of two novellas by the Strugatsky brothers, but when we will see «Noon» («Polden») and «Hard to Be a God» («Trudno byt» bogom«) is still unknown.
We«re telling you which other stories will find new life on the big screen. The main thing to remember: an adaptation does not always match the impressions from the book you read.
In early January, the premiere of the film «The Handmaiden» (18+) starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried took place in Russian cinemas (also a book adaptation, by the way). Alena Zolotukhina watched the erotic thriller already predicted to get a sequel.
