February Events in Moscow: Chinese New Year, Immersive Theater, Sports, Jazz

The first month of the new year is behind us; it was very snowy and truly wintery. Let«s see what February will bring. One thing is for sure: Moscow will host many interesting events as always. We»ll tell you about them in our monthly guide. Save it, share it with loved ones, and choose where to go together!

Chinese New Year in Moscow (0+)

From February 16 to March 1, Moscow will immerse itself in the atmosphere of Chinese New Year — the Chun Jie (Spring Festival) holiday. The main venues will be Manezhnaya Square and the passage to Revolution Square, where over 100 artists from China will present national opera, folk dances, and martial arts. Guests can expect workshops, the opportunity to send a postcard to China via special mail, and tie a wish ribbon on a stylized express train «Moscow — Beijing». Thematic events will also take place on Bolotnaya Square, at the Moscow Zoo, the Moskino film park, and other locations. For art lovers, exhibitions «Time and Space» at MMOMA (Moscow Museum of Modern Art) and the photo gallery «About China, Far and Near» at the Darwin Museum will open.

Entry to street events is free; for others, registration or ticket purchase is required.

Free Ice Skating Lessons Near Home (6+)

The project «My Sports District» offers Muscovites aged 10 and up free ice skating training sessions. Classes for beginners and enthusiasts are held daily at dozens of venues, including courtyard rinks, parks, and major sports facilities.
For example, in the first half of February, such sessions will take place:
February 1 — in Ostankino Park for children and adults.
February 7 — at Avangard Stadium for adults.
February 8 — at TechnoKatok (Volgogradsky Prospekt) for adults.
February 10 — at the Moscow Seasons project rink in Serebryakov Proyezd for adults.
February 13 — at the flagship rink in Luzhniki for adults, with free skate rental here.

Exhibition «Sretenie» (Meeting) (6+)
From January 31 to March 1, the Kupol Gallery as part of the Cube.Moscow art platform presents a personal exhibition by artist and architect Sergei Kopylov — «Sretenie» (Meeting). The project offers a deep and paradoxical interpretation of the biblical theme of encounter. The artist continues the tradition of Russian art: exploring spiritual themes through the lens of contemporary avant-garde.

Concert by Composer Vladimir Martynov (16+)
On February 15, at the Île Thélème space, a solo concert by composer Vladimir Martynov will take place. He will perform his work «In Nomine». This program is a personal statement by the composer, a gratitude to the people who shaped his views. Martynov«s works intertwine meditative minimalism, dynamic rhythms, and references to rock culture.

Immersive Play «Romeo and Juliet. Love Beyond Time» (18+)
From early February, the immersive theater «Osmank Dashkov 5» resumes shows of the play «Romeo and Juliet. Love Beyond Time». This is a bold reinterpretation of the classic tragedy set against the backdrop of Moscow in the 1990s and 2000s, where love confessions are recorded on CDs and meetings are arranged via pagers. Audience members freely move through four floors of a historic mansion, choosing which characters to follow, making each visit unique. The production was created by choreographers from the «Tantsy na TNT» (Dances on TNT) project, Garik Rudnik and Alexei Karpenko. Shows will be held every week.

Charity Market «Dom s Mayakom x Briket» (House with a Lighthouse x Briket) (6+)
On February 7 and 8, at the Briket Market food court on the 5th floor of the Tsvetnoy department store, a charity market will be held where you can take items from famous brands in exchange for donations. The assortment includes unique T-shirts — the result of a collaboration between the hospice «Dom s Mayakom» (House with a Lighthouse) with stars (Tikhon Zhiznevsky, Tosya Chaikina, the group BAZAR, etc.), as well as a mini-collection based on sketches by a hospice patient, created in collaboration with the brand Krivokoso. All funds raised will go to help seriously ill children and young adults.

«Jazz on the Water» Concerts (6+)
Every Thursday, Radio JAZZ 89.1 FM and the Radisson Royal Flotilla host «Jazz on the Water» cruises on the Moscow River. Guests will enjoy a journey on a comfortable panoramic yacht, live music, and scenic views of the capital. On February 5, the Dmitry Saburov Quartet with Australian trombonist Dan Barnett will perform, playing on sea shells. On February 12, the program «Hello, Satchmo!» in honor of Louis Armstrong«s 125th birthday will be performed by a star quintet. On February 19, the Django Friends ensemble will present passionate gypsy jazz-manouche, and on February 26, singer Telliodora (Alexandra Chernousova) will take the stage with a program in soul, R&B, and contemporary jazz styles.

Exhibition-Market «Rozy-Beryozy» (Roses-Birches) (6+)
On February 7–8, the Muravyov-Apostol Mansion will host the intimate exhibition-market «Rozy-Beryozy» (Roses-Birches). This is not just a fair, but a true cultural event: in the historical halls, guests will see carefully selected author«s items — from ceramics and jewelry to niche perfumery, while simultaneously, the Sub rosa art lecture hall will operate with lectures on culture, art, and history. Among the speakers are Yana Soroka, talking about Moscow mansions, and the mansion»s director Gulnara Tiguleva, who will give a tour of the house.

Choreography Gala Show «Gordost Strany» (Pride of the Country) (6+)
From February 16 to 20, Moscow will become the main venue for Russian choreographic art, hosting the International National Award «Gordost Strany» (Pride of the Country). The main part of the program will be a grand gala show on February 19 at the State Kremlin Palace, featuring 100 best ensembles selected from over 4,000 young dancers from across Russia and CIS countries. Folk and contemporary dances will come together on one stage, with invited stars including artists BEARWOLF and SLAVA SKRIPKA.

III Forum of Non-State Education (18+)
On February 16–17, in Moscow, at the Lomonosov cluster, the III Forum of Non-State Education will take place. The venue will gather over 2,000 experts, including representatives of leading private educational organizations, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov, First Deputy Minister of Education Alexander Bugaev, and others. Experts will discuss improving the quality of education, training in-demand engineering personnel, digitalization, and the introduction of modern management tools.

Moscow Dive Show (12+)
From February 19 to 22, the Gostiny Dvor will host the largest underwater industry exhibition, Moscow Dive Show. This year«s main theme is »Big Underwater« inhabitants: whales, megalodon sharks, tuna, and deep-sea giants. The event will bring together divers, freedivers, underwater hunters and photographers, as well as professional divers and yachtsmen. The program includes performances by world champions, including freediving record holder Alexei Molchanov, a photo exhibition, gastronomic tours with seafood, and presentations of expeditions for large marine creatures.
