Law enforcement published video of investigative actions with Sergei Berezovich. In 2007, he strangled and burned 11-year-old Lyuba from the village of Otradnoye near Nizhny Tagil. Sergei remained silent about what happened for 19 years, but eventually wrote a confession. Today, January 27, the court sentenced him to 20 years in a strict regime colony.

In a video released by authorities, the killer reenacted strangling the 11-year-old victim during an investigative experiment.

During the investigative experiment, Berezovich showed how he strangled Lyuba. He stated that a conflict arose between him (then a 44-year-old man) and the schoolgirl. He put the girl on the back seat of his Volga and squeezed her neck with both hands.

“There was a fog in my head. I waited until she collapsed on me. I can«t say [how long I strangled her], my head had already shut off. When I came to, she was no longer breathing. I felt for a pulse—there was no pulse,” the killer described his actions.

Afterward, he got the idea to “get rid of the corpse by burning it.” For three hours, he burned the body in the forest, and then sent the remains into the furnace of his bathhouse. In the morning, Sergei scattered Lyuba«s ashes over the Chusovaya River.

Lyuba herself was from a troubled family. She did poorly in school and stuttered. Shortly before her disappearance, the schoolgirl stated that Sergei had molested her. At that time, the man already had a wife and an adult daughter. A case was opened against Berezovich, and Lyuba began to blackmail him. According to Sergei, the girl demanded money, otherwise threatening to report new harassment. The lawyer said that the convicted man did not plan the murder; at the moment of conflict with the schoolgirl, he lost his temper, everything happened spontaneously.

For molesting Lyuba, Berezovich was convicted in the same 2007 year and given a suspended sentence. He was not even suspected of involvement in the girl«s disappearance. After seven years, he sold his house in the village and moved with his family to Krasnodar Krai. His relatives had no idea what past he was fleeing from in Tagil.

Sergei confessed to killing the schoolgirl only in 2023, when the Crimean court sent him to a colony for lewd acts against another child.

The confession came as a shock to his close ones, who were unaware of the family head«s dark past.

In his final statement, Berezovich fully admitted guilt for the murder.

Earlier, we detailed how Lyuba was searched for in a Ural village for 19 years and how her killer lived all this time. All materials on this horrific story are collected in a special section.
