Three Detained in Sverdlovsk Region for Preparing Terrorist Attack

The FSB prevented a terrorist attack on a railway by detaining three Russians. They face up to 20 years in prison and possible state treason charges.

Employees of the Federal Security Service (FSB) detained three Russian citizens in the Sverdlovsk region suspected of preparing a terrorist attack on a railway infrastructure facility.

The suspects were detained for allegedly planning arson on railway infrastructure under orders from Ukrainian special services.

“The Federal Security Service in the Sverdlovsk region detained three Russian citizens born in 1979, 1981, and 1984, who were planning to set fire to a transport infrastructure facility on the orders of Ukrainian special services,” the FSB Public Relations Center stated.

According to the agency, the suspects established contact with an employee of Ukrainian special services via the Telegram messenger and received from him the task to commit sabotage. During searches, electronic devices with corresponding correspondence, as well as instructions and components for making homemade incendiary devices, were seized from them.

A criminal case has been initiated against the detainees under Part 1 of Article 30 and Part 2 of Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (preparation for a terrorist act). The maximum penalty under this article is 20 years of imprisonment. Currently, all three are in custody.

Law enforcement agencies are gathering evidence to reclassify the defendants« actions under Article 275 of the Criminal Code (state treason), which provides for life imprisonment.

Earlier in Yekaterinburg, a trial began against two minors accused of organizing a terrorist attack at a railway station. This case dates back to December of last year.

In early 2025, three teenagers were detained in the same city, suspected of preparing an explosion, setting fire to a police car, and manufacturing explosives. In addition, at the end of 2024, security forces arrested a resident of the Urals who was planning a terrorist attack in the Moscow region.
