Scammers exploit water main break in Tomsk with ticket scheme

The water utility company «Tomskvodokanal» has reported a new fraudulent scheme that criminals actively used during a recent major utility breakdown. The press service stated that city residents were offered the chance to buy coupons for cold water.

The new scam began operating on January 21. That is the day a major utility accident occurred on Sibirskaya Street in Tomsk, leaving more than 600 houses without cold water. That day, unknown individuals called Tomsk residents, introducing themselves as employees of «Tomskvodokanal.» They offered the townspeople to buy coupons for cold water.

The company stated that these calls have nothing to do with them:

«»Tomskvodokanal« does not sell or issue any kind of coupons. Information about planned and emergency cold water shutdowns, about water delivery points, as well as about services is promptly posted on the company»s website and in the Tomsk media.«
