Orenburg Police Deputy Chief Accused of Leaking State Secrets

Employees of the FSB Directorate for the Orenburg Region have detained another police officer — the deputy head of one of the criminal investigation departments of the Interregional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia «Orenburgskoye». According to colleagues at Orenday, the officer is identified as Yaroslav Viktorov.
According to law enforcement, last month he passed information constituting a state secret to members of an organized crime group specializing in extortion of SMO participants. Details about the gang«s activities are not yet available.
A criminal case has been opened against the law enforcement officer under Part 1 of Article 283 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. Investigators have not only handcuffed the policeman but are also conducting other operational work to gather evidence of Viktorov«s guilt.
The Regional Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Orenburg Region has already commented on the detention.
— The head of the regional police department has ordered an internal investigation; if the employee«s guilt is confirmed, he will face punishment in accordance with current legislation, — the department reported.
It is noteworthy that this is already the fourth (!) police officer from Orenburg to come under scrutiny by investigators recently. Previously, taken into custody were Ruslan Abdullin, head of one of the anti-corruption departments, and two of his subordinates — Shafkhat Shamshayev (deputy, who also failed to appeal the preventive measure) and Denis Fayzullin (who has already been released from pretrial detention). All of them are accused of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale.
