The Leninsky District Court of Orenburg has announced the verdict for a 63-year-old local resident with multiple prior convictions, accused of robbery causing grievous bodily harm.

As established by the investigation and confirmed by the court, the man worked as a security guard at a betting club. He spent the evening observing a client who was winning large sums. After the lucky Orenburg resident left with money in his pocket, the guard caught up with him and punched him in the face. The victim fell and hit his head on the asphalt. The robber took a smartphone and 46,000 rubles (about $484 at current rates) from the pockets of his clothing.

During the court hearing, the Orenburg resident did not admit guilt: he said there was no robbery, and he «merely» wanted to beat the victim due to some conflict. But the case materials and witness testimonies worked against him.

As a result, the city resident was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment with an additional year of restriction, but the unserved part of a sentence from another verdict was added to this. The final verdict is 11 years in a special regime colony, one and a half years of restricted freedom, compensation for damages, plus 500,000 rubles (about $5,300 at current rates) in moral damages. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force and can be appealed.
