Nizhny Novgorod Opens Criminal Case Over 1000 Illegal Migrant Workers

Investigators are probing the alleged use of fraudulent documents to employ migrant workers on a construction project.
A criminal case has been opened in Nizhny Novgorod over the organization of illegal migration. The suspects submitted fake documents for 1000 foreign citizens to enable them to remain in Russia, according to the regional Investigative Committee.
According to the investigation, in 2025, several local residents submitted forged documents to migration control authorities to prevent the annulment of foreigners« work patents. The suspects intended to use foreign workers on a construction site for commercial gain. It is noted that the construction company is owned by one of the accused.
Four suspects have been detained in connection with the case. They have all been placed in a pre-trial detention center. Investigative actions are currently underway to collect and secure evidence.
The regional Investigative Committee also released footage of the suspects« arrest. Based on the video, it appears to be related to the construction of the residential complex »Dom na Mayakovskogo« in Dzerzhinsk.
Today, some details of the case were also revealed, to which detained Dzerzhinsk city council deputy Yevgeny Monakhov is connected. After a meeting with law enforcement officers, he did not attend a session, and his assistant was dodging calls.
