Former Traffic Officer Tried for Dairywoman's Death in Marks

In Marks, a former traffic police officer could be convicted for a fatal accident in which a mother of four died. As reported on January 27 by the regional prosecutor«s office, the case of the former law enforcement officer has been transferred to the Marks City Court.

The accident occurred on February 12, 2025. 43-year-old traffic police inspector Vladimir Akhtanov was driving a service Skoda Octavia with colleagues in the area of Pavlovka village, Marks District. At the 363rd kilometer of the Samara – Pugachev – Engels – Volgograd highway, he hit a woman who was crossing the roadway outside a pedestrian crossing. She died at the scene from her injuries. The deceased worked as a dairywoman at JSC «Plemzavod »Trudovoy«», and she had four children.
Investigative authorities opened a criminal case for violating traffic rules, resulting in the negligent death of a person. This is part 3 of Article 264 of the Russian Criminal Code, under which the accused faces up to 5 years of imprisonment. Marks Interdistrict Prosecutor Nikolay Alkov approved the indictment for transfer to court.
Vladimir Akhtanov did not admit guilt in the committed crime. According to the file of the Marks City Court, the case was transferred to the institution on January 27. Two lawyers are involved in the case – Victor Berger and Alexey Sochnev, and the victim in the case is Andrey Lomber.
