On February 3, the Central District Court of Chelyabinsk ruled to release former head of the city culture committee Eleonora Khalikova from the pre-trial detention center and place her under house arrest.
The Investigative Committee department for Chelyabinsk Region commented: «The investigation requested an extension of the detention period, but the court changed the preventive measure to house arrest until March 5, 2026.»
Khalikova was detained on December 5, 2025, on suspicion of organizing multi-million ruble (at current rates) fraud in the purchase of attractions for Gagarin Park. On December 6, despite the defense«s arguments, the court sent her to a pre-trial detention center.
A month before that, in October 2025, the former park director Zhazit Nurgazinov was detained. After that, Khalikova stepped away from her duties and soon resigned. Notably, Nurgazinov was released from the pre-trial detention center a day before the former official«s detention.
On January 31, the head of Gagarin Park changed — this position was taken by former director of Victory Garden Alexander Yeremin. He has become the third person in this position in less than a year.
