Courier Arrested in Fake Kidnapping of Krasnoyarsk Teen

A young man flew to Krasnoyarsk a day before the «kidnapping».
A court arrested a 22-year-old courier in the case of the fake kidnapping of the 14-year-old son of Krasnoyarsk businessman Andrei Kaplya. The young man from the Tyumen Region will remain in pretrial detention until March 22.
The young man was detained in Blagoveshchensk.
The prosecutor insisted on arrest: the suspect lives in Tyumen, is not employed and not in education — there is a risk he will flee or destroy evidence. The courier himself was opposed. He admitted his actions but stated he does not consider himself involved in fraud — and even planned to rent housing in Krasnoyarsk. The court sided with the prosecutor.
According to investigators, on January 21, the man flew from Surgut to Krasnoyarsk on the instructions of scammers. On the evening of January 22 — the day of the teenager«s disappearance — he picked up a backpack with money from 18-year-old Adelina Batyrova near the «Sever» restaurant on Lenin Street and left it at a designated spot. On the night of January 24, he left by taxi to Novosibirsk, where he awaited further instructions. He was detained on February 1 in Blagoveshchensk.
Charges will be brought against him in the near future. The search for other participants and the money continues.
Recall that on the evening of January 22, 14-year-old Nikolai Kaplya left his home in Serebryany Bor. Together with an 18-year-old girl who had come from Surgut, they opened family safes and took 2.5 million rubles ($27,800 at current rates). The father was demanded a ransom of 30 million rubles ($333,300 at current rates). The teenager was found the next day — he acted under the influence of scammers posing as police officers. Adelina is also in pretrial detention and also claims that she became a victim.
