Brothers arrested in Tula for 24-year-old attempted murder

24 years ago, a man from the Tula region decided to kill his creditor instead of repaying a debt. Recently, the suspect and his brother were detained in connection with the attempted murder committed in 2001.
As reported by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Assistant to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Police Major General Irina Volk, the incident occurred on June 16, 2001, in Sergiev Posad, Moscow Region. At that time, an unknown person shot a man who was the head of security at a local bank branch. The victim was injured but survived, and the shooter fled the scene. Investigators were unable to identify a suspect immediately, and a criminal case was opened on charges of attempted murder.
As part of the investigation into old cases — including work with archives and analysis of operational information — employees of the Main Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, together with operatives from the Moscow and Tula regions and experts from the Investigative Committee, tracked down possible participants in the crime. They turned out to be two brothers who lived in the Tula region. According to the investigation, one of them had a debt obligation to the victim«s family amounting to about $2,000. To avoid repaying the debt, he entered into a criminal conspiracy with his brother, who was supposed to eliminate the creditor.
According to the investigation, to commit the crime, the perpetrator obtained information about the victim«s place of residence, car, and appearance. He ambushed the man near his home and shot him, then fled.
During the investigation, the brothers were detained at their place of residence. Investigative authorities have charged them in the case, and both suspects have been taken into custody.
