Berezovich sentenced to 20 years for schoolgirl murder

In the Urals, a sentence has been passed on the murderer of 11-year-old Lyuba from the village of Otradny near Nizhny Tagil. In May 2007, Sergei Berezovich took her to a deserted place and strangled her in his car, then doused her with gasoline and set her on fire. The surviving remains he burned in a bathhouse, breaking the bones with a poker. The next morning, the villain scattered the girl«s ashes over the river. For the brutal murder of the child, he received 11 years of imprisonment, but taking into account other crimes against children, the final term was 20 years of strict regime, according to the press service of the courts of Sverdlovsk Oblast.

After the girl left home 19 years ago and did not return, she was considered missing. The girl«s body was never found. Only recently did Sergei Berezovich, serving a sentence for other crimes, decide to repent and tell what happened to the child.
The Investigative Committee added that he did this after evidence was presented.
“As a result of meticulous work, it was possible to establish the identity of the person involved in the girl«s disappearance and subsequent murder. Under the weight of the presented evidence, the suspect gave a confession, detailing it during an on-site verification of testimony,” said the Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Sverdlovsk Oblast.
The head of the press service of the Sverdlovsk police department, Valery Gorelykh, spoke about the murderer«s past:
“The now convicted man named Sergei has previously been at odds with the law. In the so-called «zero years,» he was convicted for committing lewd acts against a minor. At that time, the court sentenced him to a suspended imprisonment. The man, moving to another region, did not reform and again committed a crime against the sexual integrity of another minor. In 2023, the court sentenced him to a long real imprisonment. With today«s sentence, the measure of responsibility for this »villain« is further aggravated. With a high degree of probability, it can be said that a significant part of the end of his life this individual will spend behind barbed wire.”
In his final statement Berezovich fully admitted his guilt.
