In the Samara region, a harsh verdict has been issued in a high-profile corruption case investigated by three law enforcement agencies. The Central District Court of Tolyatti sentenced two men to 7 years in prison each for attempting to bribe an employee of the penal system.
According to the investigation, in the summer of 2025, relatives of a convict serving a sentence in a settlement colony decided to influence an employee of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) for money. Their goal was either to mitigate a disciplinary penalty for their relative or to transfer him to another institution. For this service, they offered 100,000 rubles (approximately $1,100 at current rates).
The employee who was approached with the offer immediately reported it to the internal security department of the FSIN for the Samara region. They, in turn, organized operational measures jointly with the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia for Tolyatti and with the participation of SOBR (Special Rapid Response Unit) fighters.
As a result, the transfer of funds was recorded and prevented. Upon detention, the bribe amount was 97,000 rubles (approximately $1,100 at current rates).
The court found both defendants guilty of giving a bribe by a group of persons by prior conspiracy on a significant scale (clause «a» part 4 article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Despite the fact that the bribe was not accepted and the crime was not completed, the court imposed the maximum strict punishment — 7 years in prison each. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force.
