Alexander Bastrykin Takes Interest in Daniyal Shikhtaimov's Hit-and-Run Case
The head of Russia«s Investigative Committee (SK Russia) has taken an interest in the case of Daniyal Shikhtaimov, who killed a 13-year-old girl in a hit-and-run in May 2025. The head of the agency is wondering why the perpetrator of the accident has not yet been punished. This was reported by the press center of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
«Social media reports indicate the prolonged failure to hold accountable a participant in a road traffic accident in the city of Saratov. In May last year, the individual involved, while driving under the influence, hit a girl on the roadway and then fled the scene. The victim died from her injuries. To this day, the perpetrator of the accident has not been convicted,» the agency«s statement says.
Alexander Bastrykin has demanded a report on this case from his subordinates in Saratov. Earlier, in November 2025, the Investigative Committee sent the criminal case on this incident to court, where it is still being considered.
At around 9 p.m. on 27 May last year, Daniyal Shikhtaimov was driving a white Lada Vesta. At the intersection of Rakhov and Sokolov streets, he hit a 13-year-old girl who was crossing the road against a red light at high speed. After the collision, without slowing down, the law academy student drove on. Traffic police officers detained him on the embankment in Saratov.
The alleged perpetrator refused to undergo a medical examination. The girl died at the scene from her injuries. After the accident, Daniyal Shikhtaimov was expelled from the law academy where he had been studying since 2021. Currently, the young man is in custody in the Saratov pre-trial detention center, and a judicial investigation is underway in the case. He faces up to 12 years in prison for the initiated criminal case.
Daniyal«s father, 56-year-old Arslanbek Shikhtaimov, holds the post of head of the Apparatus of Assistants and Advisors to the Head of Dagestan since February 2021, and before that was an assistant prosecutor in the Kizlyar District of the republic. Shikhtaimov»s appointment occurred two days after Melikov«s visit to the Kizlyar District. Moreover, he is the first head of this structure, which was created in 2021.
In the declaration for 2021 (later, civil servants were allowed not to publish information on income and expenses), a relatively modest income for an official of this level is indicated — 1.9 million rubles per year (approximately $19,000 at current rates). His wife and son, according to the public declaration, earned nothing. The official has one apartment of 95 square meters in use and 42.6 square meters in ownership. His wife has a land plot of 318 square meters and a house of 117.7 square meters in use. According to the reporting, the family also has no personal transport.
