Madina, a 21-year-old student from Yekaterinburg who managed to free herself from the captivity of scammers in Myanmar, revealed the circumstances of how she fell into the trap. The girl admitted that she wanted to start a modeling career and had previously worked at a club in China.
The student is now safe after her ordeal in Myanmar.
«I met a person. In China, one-time gigs for photo shoots of various products are quite popular. And I was also promised that I would be a model, the face of some company selling goods,» Madina said.
The student was filmed at the airport upon her return to Russia.
After that, the person who offered her the job stopped communicating.
Once inside the fraudulent call center, Madina faced regular phone checks. Since she was the only Russian-speaking girl, a translator was brought in to monitor her.
«We had internet access while we were in the office under cameras, under surveillance. We had to write to our families that everything was fine, everything was okay. For a period they took my phone away,» Madina continued. «So, my relatives knew which country I was in, but they didn»t know what was happening.«
When communication with Madina was cut off, her relatives filed a missing person report. In captivity, the girl saw soldiers, and one of them, noticing she was Russian, helped her escape.
«They only pulled me out, and some guys from other companies are being deported now. I was just lucky. No one will help you there, even if you run through the forest and get to the street,» she added.
Madina has already returned to Russia, where her sister met her at the airport. It is reported that the girl«s mother also shared details of the situation. According to volunteers, she was starved and beaten in captivity, and other female prisoners died before her eyes.
Similar incidents have occurred before: for example, last September, a Thai resident was tricked into going to Myanmar and forced to work in a similar fraudulent call center.
