Saratov Oblast ranks fifth in Russia for rape cases

Saratov Oblast is listed among the leading regions for rape cases in the annual report.
Saratov Oblast, based on last year«s results, entered the top five regions by number of rapes. This information is contained in the state Unified Interdepartmental Information and Statistical Service (EMISS).
In the EMISS report, under the column for the corresponding Criminal Code article, figures are given for the number of committed crimes. In Saratov Oblast, the number of rapes last year was 123 cases. This is higher than in Moscow (113) and Tatarstan (92). The fourth and fifth places are shared by the region with Sverdlovsk Oblast — similarly, there were 123 rapes there per year. The leaders of the ranking are Belgorod Oblast (199), Saint Petersburg (141), and Moscow Oblast (133). At the bottom of the list are the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (0), Chechnya (1), Ingushetia and the Jewish Autonomous Oblast (2 each), and Adygea (4).
In total, 3446 such crimes were committed in Russia, and in the Volga Federal District — 687. Thus, the number of rapes in Saratov Oblast constituted approximately 3.5% of the Russian total and almost 18% of all such crimes in the Volga region. Moreover, in Saratov Oblast, there has been a quantitative increase in the number of rapes compared to other regions. Based on 2024 results, only 80 were registered, then Saratov Oblast entered the top ten, and in 2023 — 74, not even making it into the top ten regions.
