The beaches of Anapa are still being cleaned after the fuel oil spill. Anna Popova, head of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing), assessed the likelihood of the resort season opening this year.

«A lot is being done to clean the beautiful white beaches in Anapa, but so far the result is insufficient to open the beaches today. But there is still time before the resort season, and I am confident that the decisions already made will be implemented, and the possibility of beach holidays will exist,» she said during a speech at the plenary session of the Federation Council.

According to her, as of today, the beaches are not ready and cannot be opened. The concentration of fuel oil in the sand is still very high.

For the same reason, Popova emphasized several times: children definitely have no place on the Anapa beaches. At least for now, as the consequences are still being eliminated.

«We are doing everything to open the beaches as soon as possible. But the situation is not as simple as we would like,» summed up the head of Rospotrebnadzor.

Our colleagues have compiled a chronicle of this environmental disaster. All details about the catastrophe involving the tanker wreck, which subsequently led to the oil spill on the beaches of Anapa, can be found here.
