The paddle-wheel steamer Gogol celebrates its 115th anniversary this year. At the start of its career, it sailed from Arkhangelsk to Vologda, but now it mainly makes two-hour trips in Arkhangelsk. The tour company Pomor-Tour, which organizes the cruises, was asked whether it plans to resume longer trips to Veliky Ustyug.
On the Gogol«s social media pages, the company replied that such trips along the Northern Dvina are not planned in the near future. Reasons include the river»s shallowing, lack of transport infrastructure, and the high cost of chartering the vessel.
This year, an adult ticket for a two-hour cruise on the Gogol costs 2,250 rubles ($24 at current rates).
