« «She was invited, she went on the advice of a friend. The friend had already gone and told her everything was fine, that the employer was reliable,» Madina«s mother told E1.RU. »I don«t even know what she did. I asked her, she said, »Mom, don«t worry, everything is fine.» And she didn«t tell me anything else.» »
Madina«s family lives in a Ural village a hundred kilometers from Yekaterinburg. The girl»s father died in 2018, leaving her mother with four children. Madina has an older sister and two younger brothers.
The student left for work in June and did not tell her family that she was held captive.
« «I didn»t lose contact with her, we were in touch. I kept writing to her, and she would reply that everything was fine,« the mother says. »I found out about the slavery from the news. Everyone started showing her. My mother«s heart tightened, I was in shock. I immediately wrote to her: »Daughter, how are you?« She is silent, not answering.» »
The Russian Embassy in Thailand said that the girl was freed from a fraudulent call center where she was illegally detained and forced to work.
« «Madina arrived in Thailand on the invitation of an »employer,« after which she was forcibly moved to Myanmar and involved in illegal activities,» the embassy said. »
The freed student was sent to a migration center in the city of Myawaddy. She will return to Russia in the near future.
