Mikhail Efremov's Fourth Wife Ksenia Kachalina Dies at 54

Soviet and Russian actress Ksenia Kachalina has died at the age of 54. Director Alexei Agranovich shared the tragic news.
«We studied together for a short time and were friends for a while afterwards. She was an enigma, a punk, complex and alluring. It was and was not her time. She was both smarter and weaker than the era,» Agranovich wrote on social media.
Ksenia was the fourth wife of actor Mikhail Efremov. They had a daughter, Anna-Maria, during their marriage, whom her father later raised.
«They met on a film set. He liked Ksenia, and things took off from there. They got married and started living together. Until she was 30, she never drank, not even champagne. Misha [Efremov] was already drinking then. When they split up, I started asking why he was bringing her money? Let her get a job! But no! He brought money, and maybe drugs too. And that»s what became of it,« Kachalina»s mother recalled.
The cause of the actress«s death has not been disclosed. It is known that after the fatal car accident involving Efremov, the woman»s health deteriorated sharply. Journalists who came to film Kachalina noted the squalid conditions she lived in: her apartment was piled with garbage, and there were bottles and cigarette butts everywhere. For a long time, Ksenia was supported by her ex-husband, but the assistance stopped after the actor was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. The actress complained that she had no money left.
Ksenia Kachalina (born Oksana) was born on 3 May 1971 in Saratov. Her debut film role was in Valery Rubinchik«s film »Nelyubov« (»Non-Love«) in 1991. For this role, she received an award at the Kinotavr film festival.
She also starred in films including Dmitry Meskhiev»s «Nad Temnoy Vodoy» («Over the Dark Water,» which won a gold prize at the Taormina Film Festival), Sergei Solovyov«s »Tri Sestry« (»Three Sisters«), Abay Karpykov»s «Tot, Kto Nezhneye» («The One Who Is More Tender»), Vladimir Bortko«s »Tsirk Sgorel, i Klouny Razbezhali«s» («The Circus Burned Down, and the Clowns Ran Away»), Gleb Panfilov«s »Romanovy: Ventsenosnaya Semya« (»The Romanovs: An Imperial Family«), and others. The actress»s filmography includes 19 films, the last of which was in 2007.
