Aginskoye Commander Dies Defending Kursk Region After Returning from Wounds
Guards Sergeant Bair Munkuyev, a squad and combat vehicle commander in a separate guards airborne assault brigade, died in the special military operation on June 1, 2025, at the age of 39 while defending the Kursk region. This was reported by the Telegram channel of the district newspaper «Aginskaya Pravda».
Bair Shukhurtuyevich was born on December 25, 1987, in the village of Guney in the Aginsky District, the fifth child in a large family.
He studied from the 1st to the 9th grade at the Guney school. In the 10th grade, by invitation of the Aginsky District freestyle wrestling team, he trained at the Chelutay wrestling hall while studying at the Chelutay secondary school. In the 11th grade, he was sent to the army freestyle wrestling school of G. I. Makhutov in Ulan-Ude, where he graduated from secondary boarding school No. 3.
He fulfilled the standards for the Candidate Master of Sports. He was a multiple prize-winner and champion of district, regional, and regional competitions and international tournaments.
After school, he entered and graduated from the Buryat State Agricultural Academy named after V. R. Filippov with a degree in land cadastre. In April 2010, he was called up for compulsory military service in Ulan-Ude. In 2014, he signed a contract.
From the first days, he took part in combat operations in the special military operation zone, repeatedly receiving serious wounds, and always returned to the ranks to his friends and comrades.
For demonstrated courage, bravery, and valor, he was awarded the medal «For Courage» and the Order of Courage. Bair is survived by his wife and three children.
«From childhood, Bair was active, determined, and cheerful. He had an inner strength that attracted people. His strength was his boundless kindness, his honesty, and his unwavering faith in justice. He knew how to charge those around him with his positivity. His fortitude and bravery made him a true leader. He always valued his friends, comrades, and the time spent with his family,» the message said.
