What the weather will be like in spring: folk signs from February

If you«re already tired of winter and are waiting for spring and summer to arrive, you might first wonder if they will be early and warm? The answers to these questions can be found in the calendar of folk signs.
Author Dmitry Dyakonov conducted extensive research and compiled his results in the book Folk Signs for Weather and Harvest. In it, he collected not only general weather signs for the month but also explained what to pay attention to on each individual day.
«A cold February means a favorable summer; a cold and dry February means expect a hot August; a warm February means a cold spring; a frosty February means a favorable summer», the author listed the main signs of the month.
February precipitation says a lot: if it rains often, then spring and summer will also be rainy; if there is no snow at all, the summer will be dry. One should also hope for frosts at the end of the month: the colder the last week of February, the warmer March will be!
More accurate forecasts can be made using signs from specific days:
February 1: The main sign for this day says the weather today will be the same for the whole month. Also, look at the sky at night: if there are many stars, winter will linger. And if a blizzard picks up during the day, there will be a blizzard on Maslenitsa (Shrovetide) as well.
February 2: This day is also connected to Maslenitsa and indicates the weather for the holiday.
February 3: Cold and dry weather promises a hot August.
February 5: Frost and bright sun are also a sign of a hot August, and if there is sun but no frost, spring will be early.
February 6: The weather on this day will be the same as the spring. If windless weather persists all day, the second half of July will be dry and hot.
February 7: The weather from morning until noon will be the same as the first half of the next winter, and from noon until evening — the second half. Heavy snowfall on this day also predicts an early autumn.
February 10: Strong wind on this day is a harbinger of a rainy summer.
February 11: Heavy snow promises an imminent thaw, and severe cold — heat at the end of summer.
February 14: Snowfall on this day is a sign of a wet, rainy spring.
February 15: If the day is cold and cloudy, then the spring will be cold, and if a thaw has begun, then spring will be early and warm.
February 16: A lot of snow on this day foretells frequent rains in summer.
February 18: Severe frost promises a dry and hot summer, and a thaw — the imminent end of winter.
February 21: The stronger the frost on this day, the warmer March will be.
February 23: This day is also a «forecaster» for March. If by February 23 the frosts have already lasted a week, then the first month of spring will be warm.
February 24: Little snow on this day indicates that May will be warm.
February 25: A blizzard or thick fog predicts a rainy summer.
February 27: Good weather on this day is a bad sign, indicating that frosty days are ahead, and a hard frost predicts a dry summer.
