After a sharp cold snap, warmth will come to the Urals. On the weekend, temperatures in Yekaterinburg are expected to reach -5°C (23°F).
“On Thursday, 5 February, the peak of the cold snap falls on Sverdlovsk Oblast. The core of upper-level cold is passing through the Middle Urals, shifting northeast under the influence of a vast cyclone centered over the Barents Sea coast.
In the cold air, a ridge of high atmospheric pressure is forming, directed east of the main cyclone, through the Middle Volga region and the Southern Urals. The influence of the ridge ensures the formation of a temperature inversion in Sverdlovsk Oblast and additional cooling of the surface air layers. However, the anticyclone will retreat rather quickly to the south and east, the inversion will break down, and by Friday night, warming will begin across the region,” noted Alexei Pulin, author of the telegram channel «Weather in Yekaterinburg».
The Hydrometeorological Center has released a weather forecast for Yekaterinburg through the end of the week.
On Thursday, 5 February, no significant precipitation, daytime -17°C (1°F).
