Sverdlovsk Highways Snowed In: Emergency Warning for Drivers

State Traffic Inspectorate (GAI) inspectors have issued a warning for drivers. Highways in the Sverdlovsk Region are covered in snow.
«New layers of snow falling on top of the existing cover create additional difficulties for traffic. The surface becomes looser and more slippery, further reducing tire grip on the road, increasing braking distance, and making it harder to control the vehicle,» the State Traffic Inspectorate reported.
Drivers are asked to reduce speed to maintain control of their vehicles, avoid sharp maneuvers, and not drive into oncoming traffic.
«The main rule to remember: if you see snow on the highway, the oncoming lane is closed to you. This simple condition is the key to safety during bad weather. Inexperienced drivers should postpone long trips until conditions improve,» GAI officials note.
Special attention is asked to be paid to following distance — it should be increased in snowfall conditions.
Meteorologists had warned about the snowfall in advance. Read the important instructions on how to drive safely in snowfall and icy conditions.
