Employees of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate (GAI) issued a warning to motorists due to difficult weather conditions. Many highways in the Sverdlovsk region have been covered with fresh snow.
The agency explained: «New layers of snow falling on the existing surface create additional difficulties for movement. The surface becomes looser and more slippery, which further reduces tire grip on the road, increases braking distance, and makes it harder to control the vehicle.»
The inspectors urge drivers to follow a number of rules: reduce speed to maintain control, avoid sharp maneuvers and overtaking, and not drive into the oncoming lane.
«The main rule to remember: if you see snow on the highway, the oncoming lane is closed to you. This simple condition is the key to safety during bad weather. Drivers with little experience should postpone long trips until more favorable conditions arrive,» the GAI emphasized.
Motorists also need to increase their usual distance from other vehicles, as braking distance becomes longer in snowfall.
Meteorologists had previously reported the impending heavy precipitation. For safe travel on ice and in snowfall, it is worth studying relevant expert recommendations in advance. The weather forecast for February and the coming days also indicated the likelihood of worsening conditions.
