Sharp Cold Wave to Hit Chelyabinsk Region

A sharp cold snap is forecast in the coming days in the Southern Urals. Nighttime temperatures could drop to -33°C (-27°F), the Chelyabinsk Hydrometeorological Center warned on Wednesday, 4 February.
«A frontal zone is currently affecting us,» explained Yekaterina Vykhodtseva, head of the meteorological forecasts department at the hydrometeorological center. «A cold front is located in a cyclone, and this cyclone is moving further northeast. In its wake, a cold Arctic air mass is spreading. This air mass will affect us over the next two days.»
Already tonight in Chelyabinsk, temperatures of -23°C to -25°C (-9°F to -13°F) are forecast, and on 5 February daytime temperatures of -15°C to -17°C (5°F to 1°F). The cold spell will be quite short.
