Severe frost closes Kurgan schools, more cold expected

30-degree frosts have returned to Kurgan Oblast. Today, January 22, classes for students from grades 1 to 11 in the first shift of city schools have been cancelled, as reported on the city administration«s website. Lessons are recommended to be conducted remotely. In the morning, it was -30°C (-22°F).

According to the Kurgan Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, today during the day across the oblast, it will be -25 to -30°C (-13 to -22°F). Tomorrow, January 23, at night in the region, it will be -35 to -40°C (-31 to -40°F), during the day -27 to -32°C (-17 to -26°F). The frosts will persist on January 24 as well, with night temperatures down to -38°C (-36°F) and daytime temperatures of -25 to -30°C (-13 to -22°F).

On the website of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, a 30-degree frost in the Trans-Urals is also indicated for the night of January 25. The frosts will recede by Monday.
