Samara Oblast Cold Snap to Ease by Sunday

Temperatures in Samara Oblast have plunged to -20°C (-4°F) and below. Forecasters say the bitter cold will persist through Saturday before a warm-up arrives on Sunday.

Samara Oblast has been hit by cold temperatures of minus 20 degrees (-4°F) and below. How long will this weather last? When will the temperature outside rise above -15°C (5°F)?

«During the day on Saturday, February 7, we expect 9-14 degrees of frost (-9 to -14°C; 15.8 to 6.8°F). On the night of Sunday, February 8, it will also be minus 9-14 degrees (-9 to -14°C; 15.8 to 6.8°F). During the day, it is predicted to be between -5 and -10°C (23 to 14°F),» reported the Volga UGMS (Volga Administration for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring).

Until that day, the frosts will remain quite severe. On the night of Friday, February 6, it is expected to be -18 to -23°C (0 to -9°F), locally dropping to -29°C (-20°F). During the day, it is predicted to be from -10 to -15°C (14 to 5°F) (but will it?). On Saturday, February 7, at night it will cool to 14-19 degrees of frost (-14 to -19°C; 6.8 to -2.2°F), locally to -25°C (-13°F).

According to the synoptics« characterization of February, minus 30 (-22°F) is not all the surprises that the month can demonstrate. In February, -46°C (-51°F) and +12°C (54°F) are possible. Snow cover in open areas by the end of the month reaches 19-27 cm (7.5-10.6 in), sometimes 44-52 cm (17.3-20.5 in).
