Long snowfall to hit Perm Krai after severe frosts, forecast says

The -30°C (-22°F) frosts are receding in Perm Krai. Air temperatures will rise in the coming days, and by late January the region will be hit by snowfalls.

According to the Perm Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring, on January 25 and 26, cloudy weather with clear spells and light snow is expected in the Perm Krai area. The wind will be southwesterly at 4-9 meters per second.

On Saturday night, temperatures around -23°C (-9°F) are expected, with daytime temperatures of -18°C (0°F) and light snow. On Monday, temperatures will rise to -21°C (-6°F) at night and -16°C (3°F) during the day.

On Tuesday, January 27, the anticyclone will shift to the Southern Urals. Nighttime temperatures are forecast at -23°C (-9°F), with no significant precipitation but possible frost deposits. During the day, the region will see light snow and blowing snow, with winds strengthening to 8-13 meters per second. Nighttime temperatures will remain at previous levels, while daytime temperatures will rise to -18...-13°C (0...9°F).

Blowing snow refers to the accumulation of snow particles lifted by the wind to a low height above the ground.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center«s preliminary forecast, a prolonged snowfall is expected in Perm Krai at the end of January. From January 28 to 30, northern areas of the region may see 20-35 millimeters of precipitation, with 10-15 millimeters in central areas. This represents 50-85% of the monthly norm.
