Vaccination against five diseases can prolong life. This primarily concerns elderly Russians, who due to age are susceptible to the danger of infections. More details about the important vaccinations were shared by the Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Academician of RAS, President of the Dmitry Rogachev National Medical Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Immunology (FGBU NMITS DGOI), and Scientific Supervisor of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University (RNRMU) Institute of Medical Diagnostics, Alexander Rumyantsev.
«There are absolutely certain diseases (for which vaccination is necessary — Ed.): these are influenza, vaccination should be annual because the older generation dies from influenza. This is pneumococcus. This is Haemophilus influenzae, or Haemophilus influenzae type b. This is chickenpox, vaccine against chickenpox. And the fifth — vaccine against papillomavirus. This is a virus that causes tumor diseases in women, and men are carriers. These four vaccinations are done for a vaccine period, not annually,» said the expert.
Vaccination should begin at the age of 60–65. As Rumyantsev noted, infections cause serious illnesses with complications in retirees, often leading to fatal outcomes.
«The use of such vaccination can significantly prolong the life expectancy of elderly people,» emphasized the academician in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
The scientists« proposals on vaccination of elderly people are now in the State Duma, added Rumyantsev.
In 2027, the HPV vaccine is planned to be made free — it should appear in the national vaccination calendar. We covered this in more detail here.
In addition, one of the most important tests has become free. Now it can be taken as part of reproductive check-ups under the compulsory health insurance (CHI) system. We are talking about the HPV DNA test.
