In Kurgan, due to cold weather, classes for second shift students in grades 1 through 11 were canceled today, January 22. Lessons will be conducted remotely. This was reported by the Kurgan Center for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring. The temperature in the city was -31.9 degrees Celsius (-25°F) at 8:48 a.m.

Kurgan meteorologists from the TsGMS (Central Hydrometeorological Service) forecast nighttime temperatures of -33 to -35 degrees Celsius (-27 to -31°F) and daytime temperatures of -26 to -28 degrees Celsius (-15 to -18°F) for today. Such cold is expected to persist in the city until January 26. The coldest period is anticipated on the night of Friday, January 23, when air temperatures could drop to -35 to -40 degrees Celsius (-31 to -40°F).

On Friday, January 23, temperatures could drop to -40°C (-40°F) in some parts of Kurgan Oblast.

According to the forecast by Ilya Vinshtein, author of the project «Weather 45 – Weather in Kurgan», temperatures below -30 degrees Celsius (-22°F) will continue through the weekend. On Saturday, January 24, daytime temperatures will be around -27 degrees Celsius (-17°F) and nighttime around -36 degrees Celsius (-33°F). On Sunday, daytime temperatures will be about -22 degrees Celsius (-8°F) and nighttime around -33 degrees Celsius (-27°F).

Nighttime cold is expected to last until the end of the week.
