Frost is bearing down on Krasnoyarsk again, with thermometers set to drop to -40 degrees Celsius (-40°F). According to forecasters from the Mid-Siberian Hydrometeorological Service (UGMS), this weather will arrive on February 3 in the central regions of the krai, which includes Krasnoyarsk itself. The wind will blow from the south with gusts up to 20 meters per second.

In the north, the mercury will fall even further — to -45 degrees Celsius (-49°F). In the southern districts of the krai, air temperatures will range from -30 to -35 degrees Celsius (-22 to -31°F).

Forecasters also note that black ice will form on roads, and from February 3 to 6, there is a continued risk of avalanches.

Based on the forecast from the service «NGS24.RU Weather», warming will only arrive on Friday, February 6.

At the Krasnoyarsk Flora and Fauna Park «Royev Ruchey», staff conducted their own Groundhog Day — but instead of a groundhog, an African hedgehog named Potap predicted the weather.

For the experiment, park employees prepared two bowls with equal portions of zophobas beetle larvae — a favorite treat for hedgehogs, likened in the zoo to truffles for gourmets. The portions were carefully weighed so Potap wouldn«t choose the larger bowl. One was placed under a sign with a sun, symbolizing an early and warm spring. The other under a snowflake, representing prolonged cold. See how it turned out in the full article on the website.
