Heavy snowfall to hit Sochi mountains, up to half of monthly norm

A severe snowstorm has already begun in the area, with meteorologists warning of dangerous conditions and avalanche risks in the highlands.

According to meteorologists, very heavy snowfall is expected in the high mountains of Sochi until the end of the day on February 3. The amount of precipitation will reach 20–30 mm and may meet the criteria for a dangerous weather phenomenon.

Furthermore, until the end of the day on February 3 and throughout February 4, there will be a high risk of avalanches in the mountains at elevations above 1,000 meters above sea level. A low avalanche risk persists at elevations above 500 meters.

All emergency services are operating in an enhanced mode. The situation is being monitored by the City Operational Headquarters.

Residents and visitors to the resort are advised to exercise extreme caution and, if possible, refrain from traveling to mountain areas by private vehicle, prioritizing public transport instead. In case of emergency, one should call the unified emergency number 112.
