Frost returns to Kuzbass with -37 degree lows

Kuzbass is facing a return of severe frost, with temperatures dropping to -37°C (-35°F) by Wednesday night. The cold spell follows a brief warm-up earlier in the month.

February in Kuzbass began with a sharp warming to -5 degrees Celsius (23°F), but gradually the thermometer readings will creep down. On the night of Wednesday, February 4, the temperature outside will reach -37 degrees Celsius (-35°F), according to the Kemerovo Hydrometeorological Center forecast.
Forecasters expect that the nearest night will be frosty: from -23 to -28 degrees Celsius (-9°F to -18°F), but winter will make itself felt especially in the north of the region, where it will cool down to -32…-37 °C (-26°F to -35°F). With the onset of dusk, the north-east wind will strengthen in places with gusts up to 14 meters per second.
During the day in Kuzbass, the air will warm up to -13…-18 degrees Celsius (9°F to 0°F), but in some areas, spring-like marks from -5 to -10 °C (23°F to 14°F) will continue to please residents. In the north of the region, the cold will persist with temperatures up to -23 °C (-9°F).
In general, the middle of the week will pass sunny and without precipitation. In places, Kuzbass residents will observe the most beautiful phenomenon — hoarfrost, but along with it, specialists predict the occurrence of haze.
Drivers should be more careful, as black ice will remain on the roads.
In Kemerovo, at night the thermometer will not drop below -25…-27 degrees Celsius (-13°F to -17°F), during the day it will rise to -13…-15 °C (9°F to 5°F).
The north-east wind will be on average 3–8 meters per second, in places gusts will reach 13. In the regional capital on Wednesday, sunny and dry weather will also set in.
